Even the NBA official website claims that: &#8220;By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time&#8221;<b>. <\/b>A complete player, offensively and defensively, legendary in the clutch, winner of all 6 finals he has played in, global icon; worthy of being called the king of basketball.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 18pt; line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\">Despite agreeing that Jordan was the greatest, I think that many folks forget that there are other players worthy of that crown. \u00a0It would not be absurd to say that others athletes were just as good or even better than MJ, people like: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; Bill Russell (incredible 11 titles in 13 years in the NBA and arguably the best defensive player ever); Wilt Chamberlain (50.4 points per game in the 61-62 season &#8211; 18.8 more than the second place player &#8211; and all time NBA leader in rebounds); Magic Johnson (9 NBA finals in 13 seasons and all time leader in assists per game); Larry Bird (3 MVP&#8217;s and 3 titles in the 80&#8217;s, the most competitive and exciting NBA era); Kobe Bryant (the closest player to Jordan in terms of style &#8211; recently passed the Bull&#8217;s legend in total points); and Lebron James (4 MVP&#8217;s at age 30, only one less that Jordan in his entire career).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 18pt; line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\">For example, one can make a case for Kareem over jordan Jordan with the following arguments: superior longevity (final&#8217;s MVP at 38); winning the same 6 titles as Jordan; NBA all time leading scorer; most MVP&#8217;s in NBA history (6, one more than MJ); had the skyhook in his arsenal, the most effective and unguardable shot in basketball&#8217;s history (not perfectly emulated to this day; even a great shooter and legendary player like <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/dallas\/mavericks\/post\/_\/id\/4703195\/dirk-sky-hook-still-a-work-in-progress\">Dirk Nowitzki has stated how tough the skyhook is to master)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 18pt; text-align: justify; line-height: 150%; box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; orphans: auto; widows: 1; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\">With that subject on my mind, I&#8217;ve decided to research something that I have not found elsewhere online: the opinion of 21 of the greatest NBA legends themselves (only retired and still living players) about who would be the greatest ever. Do they agree with fans? Next all the statements I could find:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; text-align: start; line-height: 150%; box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; orphans: auto; widows: 1; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><strong style=\"box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased;\"><span style=\"color: #111111;\">Michael Jordan &#8211; Himself (Jordan).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jqEL4CDWXR8<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Bird &#8211;\u00a0Probably\u00a0Jordan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/articles.chicagotribune.com\/1985-02-07\/sports\/8501080020_1_bulls-larry-bird-orlando-woolridge\">In 1985, Bird called the rookie Jordan the best ever. <\/a>When MJ retired in 1998, he said:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130722060339\/http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/basketball\/nba\/1999\/jordan_retires\/news\/1999\/01\/13\/jordan_greatest\/\">&#8220;Is he the greatest? He&#8217;s in the top two.&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0Recently he said that<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gmanetwork.com\/news\/story\/330119\/sports\/basketball\/nba-10-questions-with-larry-bird\">&#8220;and obviously everyone thinks that [Michael] Jordan was the best player ever&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Magic Johnson &#8211; Jordan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Magic, Jordan is the greatest player and Bill Russell, the greatest winner in NBA history.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Is Michael Jordan The Greatest Ever? For me it would be Meadowlark Lemon&#8217;.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Bill Russell &#8211; Jordan.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130722060339\/http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/basketball\/nba\/1999\/jordan_retires\/news\/1999\/01\/13\/jordan_greatest\/\">&#8220;I cannot imagine anyone playing any better.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Oscar Robertson &#8211; Did not pick one. He thinks several players are in the conversation. Does not think Jordan was the greatest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Oscar Robertson does not think Jordan was the greatest:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/nba-news\/188502-oscar-robertson-jordan-is-not-greatest-ever\">&#8220;Everybody looks at what you\u2019ve done. Sure he won six championships, Russell won eleven. There are other players on these teams when they play. They don\u2019t play by themselves. Michael Jordan is a great player. Was he the greatest? Ask Kobe that. Ask Bill Russell. Ask Oscar Robertson. Ask Wilt Chamberlain. Ask Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, ask those guys.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/nba-news\/188502-oscar-robertson-jordan-is-not-greatest-ever\">\u201cThe media now has anointed Michael Jordan the greatest of all time. Is he greatest of all time? No, I don\u2019t think he is. I think he is a great player. There have been other great players as well, great players before I played<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Oscar probably has Lebron over Jordan, because when asked about them, he said that\u00a0&#8220;Lebron is in a class of his own&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Oscar Robertson says Lebron better than MJ\" width=\"616\" height=\"347\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_I52nezhkyA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Kareem Abdul-Jabbar<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; He does not choose\u00a0one player in particular, but he thinks Oscar Robertson was superior to both\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nba.nbcsports.com\/2013\/10\/03\/kareem-says-oscar-robertson-better-than-jordan-or-lebron\/\">Jordan and Lebron<\/a>;\u00a0and he has\u00a0<strong>Wilt Chamberlain<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lakersblog.latimes.com\/lakersblog\/2011\/05\/kareem-abdul-jabbar-questions-scottie-pippens-argument-that-lebron-james-may-be-the-greatest-player-.html\">as undoubtedly the greatest scorer ever.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Isiah Thomas &#8211; Kareem Abdul Kabbar\u00a0(updated in 06\/01\/2017, thanks to reader Marcel Pilatti; updated again in\u00a006\/02\/2017)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thomas has changed his mind for some times\u00a0\u00a0already. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130722060339\/http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/basketball\/nba\/1999\/jordan_retires\/news\/1999\/01\/13\/jordan_greatest\/\">He used to consider Jordan the best ever<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.chicagotribune.com\/2012-03-23\/sports\/ct-spt-0324-mitchell--20120324_1_the-nba-kareem-abdul-jabbar-lebron-james\">Then, he changed to Kareem<\/a>. At 06\/01\/2017, he chose Lebron James as the greatest ever:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/isiah-thomas-explains-why-he-considers-lebron-the-greatest-to-ever-play-the-game\/?ftag=COS-05-10aaa0h&amp;utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+Trending+Content&amp;utm_content=592f683ef6d7a100079972a5&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=facebook\">&#8220;LeBron James has always used his platform and his voice to shine it on communities and on the powerless in our society,&#8221; Thomas said. &#8220;&#8230; In this moment right here, he has moved &#8212; in my opinion &#8212; into the greatest ever.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/isiah-thomas-explains-why-he-considers-lebron-the-greatest-to-ever-play-the-game\/?ftag=COS-05-10aaa0h&amp;utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+Trending+Content&amp;utm_content=592f683ef6d7a100079972a5&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=facebook\">&#8220;Why? Because what he&#8217;s done in the game and what he&#8217;s doing outside of the game. &#8230; What LeBron James just did today for this generation and generations to come, on this day, what he just stood for and what he just did socially with that press conference, he&#8217;s the greatest player to ever play the game.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Just one day later, at the show &#8220;Undisputed on FS1&#8221;, Isiah once again said Kareem is the greatest player of all time (starts at 6:13):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Isiah Thomas: I would pick LeBron James over Michael Jordan | UNDISPUTED\" width=\"616\" height=\"347\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pXSV7-OQBT0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;But the greatest player to ever play this game is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. And we are dismissive of Kareem, because every single stat that you throw up, he&#8217;s at the top. So when we talk about the greatest to ever do it, you know, Kareem is the one who is at the top of the bar&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Karl Malone &#8211; Wilt Chamberlain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/chicago\/bulls\/post\/_\/id\/9229\/jordan-not-malones-pick-for-all-time-greatest\">&#8220;I\u2019d have to say Wilt Chamberlain was my all-time greatest ever player.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>John Stockton: Can&#8217;t pick just one.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an interview at ESPN with Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith, Stockton said that that are a lot of players that fit in the conversation for best ever like Jordan, Chamberlain, Bird, Magic and Elgin Baylor.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LWDHmz5TzZM<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Charles Barkley &#8211; Jordan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Barkley argues that Jordan was the greatest, since he was the best offensively and also the best defensive player of his era.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Is Michael Jordan The Greatest Ever? I don&#8217;t think there will ever be another player to have the same impact on the game of basketball as Michael Jordan. The keys to basketball, despite the emphasis on big men, is still speed and quickness. He has them in abundance. When I jumped as high as I could, I got to the bottom of the net. When he jumps as high as he can, he&#8217;s over the backboard. He&#8217;s the greatest offensive weapon to ever play, and probably the best defensive player we&#8217;ve ever seen.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Julius Erving, \u00a0Dr. J &#8211; \u00a0Kareem Abdul-Jabbar:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8221; For him \u00a0to that (being the best ever). for me, he (Lebron) has to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Not just the best center, he was the best player, period. He was better than Magic (Johnson), better than Larry, better than Michael (Jordan). He was my source of motivation. Everything I did was to try to beat this guy. I lived to play against him, and I played my best ball against him. No matter what I threw at him, though, it seemed like he&#8217;d score 50 against me. His left leg belongs in the Smithsonian. And it wasn&#8217;t just offense. He was a great defender and rebounder, a great passer, a wonderful leader. He was phenomenal.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hakeem Olajuwon &#8211; Probably Jordan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2015\/01\/15\/michael-jordan-far-superior-to-lebron-james-ex-nba-champ-hakeem-olajuwon.html\">Olajuwon said that\u00a0Lebron is among the all time greatest players, but Jordan was much superior to him.<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bob Pettit &#8211; Bill Russell<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hangtime.blogs.nba.com\/2012\/12\/12\/the-qa-at-80-pettit-reflects-on-wilt-russell-cousy-and-life-outside-the-nba\/\">&#8220;I think he\u2019s the greatest player who ever walked on the court. There are a lot of guys you could say that about, but in my mind, I would start my team with Bill. In his prime, he was the best I\u2019ve ever seen. He had a great desire to win and to destroy you. And his defense and his rebounding \u2013 his defense was incredible. They say [with 11 championship rings] he\u2019s the great winner of all time. Why don\u2019t they just say he\u2019s the greatest player of all time? That\u2019s what the game is about.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>George Gervin &#8211; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a 2014\u00a0 interview with Bill Simmons, Gervin claimed Kareem is the greatest ever:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"George Gervin on Kareem Being the Greatest of All Time and Playing Dr. J and Michael Jordan\" width=\"616\" height=\"347\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xtH24GQr6k8?start=1478&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But the greatest of all time to me, because you know, that&#8217;s who I played against, is Kareem. You know, his dominance, his acurracy, you know, was almost next to none&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ricky Barry<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Maybe<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Wilt Chamberlain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He thinks it is impossible to compare players of different positions, but thinks you have to start a team with the big men, that&#8217;s why he would choose Wilt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">About Jordan:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130722060339\/http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/basketball\/nba\/1999\/jordan_retires\/news\/1999\/01\/13\/jordan_greatest\/\">&#8220;I keep hearing he&#8217;s the greatest and that upsets me. It&#8217;s not fair to other players. You can&#8217;t compare a 2-guard to a center. There are five different and distinct positions.
